How Nokia uses Sustainability Intelligence to Win Business

Anni Rautakoura
Strategic Partnerships Lead, Corporate Sustainability @ Nokia
As the Corporate Sustainability team, our role is to position Nokia’s sustainability leadership in a way that directly supports business growth - with sustainability as the value proposition. That means enabling our sales teams, account leaders, and executives to engage customers with credible, data-driven sustainability insights; not generic ESG or tick-in-the-box statements
The challenge
Manual sustainability intelligence cannot keep up with business needs
Before PlanetAI, understanding the sustainability positioning of competitors and customers was an extremely manual process. A comprehensive competitor sustainability analysis could take months of expert work, gathering public disclosures, reports, announcements, and market research, and then trying to interpret what it means for business positioning.
Even after doing this work, it was difficult to:
Track how competitors were evolving their sustainability positioning
Connect sustainability performance to business value
Rapidly prepare for strategic customer engagements
What sustainability insight was “reliable” based on publicly disclosed, up-to-date data and information
At the same time, customer expectations were rising fast. Today, ESG requirements represent a significant weightage in our major customers' decision making and that weight is increasing, not decreasing.
Sustainability performance has become a competitive differentiator.
We needed a new capability: real-time sustainability intelligence that directly supports sales and executive engagement.
The planetai approach
Turning sustainability into a sales advantage

PlanetAI stood out because it wasn’t built as another reporting or compliance tool. Instead, it was designed to answer a very specific business question:
“How do we use sustainability intelligence to win business?”
With PlanetAI, public sustainability information that previously required months of manual research is now transformed into structured, comparable, decision-ready insights — available in minutes rather than months.
This delivers two immediate benefits:
Massive efficiency gains in sustainability analysis
A new strategic input into customer engagement
A CONCRETE EXAMPLE
At a major event last year, we received an unexpected opportunity to meet the management of a potential customer in the European market — with only 30 minutes’ notice. None of us on-site had prior strategic engagement history with this customer. Using PlanetAI’s match report between Nokia and the customer, we instantly understood:
Their sustainability goals and current performance
Their strategic focus areas
Where Nokia’s solutions could create value
That allowed us to walk into a high-level executive meeting fully prepared, demonstrating that we understood the customer’s priorities — and positioning Nokia accordingly. PlanetAI didn’t replace our sales expertise; it accelerated and sharpened it.
We now integrate PlanetAI insights into our ESG Sales Engagement Plans for key accounts — effectively making sustainability a structured part of account strategy rather than an afterthought.

unique marketing position
Making sustainability data actionable
What makes PlanetAI unique in the market is that it doesn’t treat sustainability as a reporting burden. Instead, it connects sustainability data to daily business conversations — exactly where large enterprises like Nokia need it.
We evaluated other vendors. Many offered ESG data processing or reporting automation. But PlanetAI was the only platform designed explicitly to:
Translate sustainability signals into sales-relevant insights
Support executive-level strategic engagement
Tie sustainability to competitive positioning
This alignment with business impact — not just data collection — is why we chose PlanetAI as a strategic partner.
I personally use PlanetAI insights almost daily — for executive briefings, annual reporting preparation and customer engagement planning.
In Summary
PlanetAI insights has opened the door for sustainability to be part of strategic sales discussions, rather than only a compliance point.
It allows us to:
Understand customers and competitors faster
Enter executive conversations better prepared
For Nokia, PlanetAI is becoming a strategic intelligence tool for competitiveness and future-proof growth using sustainability as a value proposition.
